Greet The DayDo you begin the day by checking email or social media sites on your phone, grumbling and grouching, or with a ritual first cup of coffee? What you do first thing in the morning sets the scene for the rest of the day. Create a ritual for centering yourself and connecting with God and family before the day gets rolling!

A Rule of LifeThat's the fine thing about a rule: It doesn't depend on your feelings. You never ask yourself what you feel like doing. You just do it. That way, it gets done.

If you can put aside the non-inclusive language this is a good site for creating a Rule of Life. You will find templates, examples, and resources for selecting rhythms for your days, weeks, months, and years. Share your choices with a partner or group.

Daily Examen
Forms of the daily examen can serve as discernment tools —good for discovering how you're wired, what your particular personality responds to, what your passions and talents might be. In its contemporary form, it is a great diagnostic tool and is a simple practice. At the close of the day, one explores these questions:
1. What surprised me today?
2. What touched or moved me today?
3. What inspired me today?
4. What was "life-giving" to me today?
5. What felt "life-taking" to me today?
6. What did I learn about God and myself today?
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS FOR DISCERNMENT:
What would I do if I knew I could not fail?
What am I doing when I lose track of time?
If I could take only two books to a desert island, what would they be?
